Substance use and interpersonal violence (IPV) are strongly linked. If both are present, a behavioral health professional should address them together. Understanding how substance use can shape a person’s experience of harm or influence their actions is key to providing compassionate, effective care. However, many behavioral health professionals do not feel prepared to respond. This course gives behavioral health providers and case managers the tools to recognize the connection between substance use and IPV and apply practical strategies to support both survivors and those who cause harm.
