You are the front line for recognizing and preventing medical errors. This course closely examines the prevalence and various causes of medical errors and proposes prevention strategies for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and audiologists. Learners will observe and identify common errors that could occur in their practice settings as well as how to prevent and correct errors and improve patient outcomes.
Correct selection and coding of CPT® codes is critical for accurate reimbursement for evaluation and therapy services performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs). This course is designed to provide SLPs with an understanding of the most commonly billed CPT® codes for speech-language pathology services. You will learn the difference between time-based (timed) and service-based (untimed) codes and when to use multiple CPT® codes and modifiers.
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are required to complete 36 weeks (or its part-time equivalent) of supervised clinical practice prior to becoming certified. A practicing certified SLP can assume the role of clinical supervisor after completing at least 2 hours of supervision training. In this course, SLPs will learn the roles and responsibilities of clinical supervision of students and Clinical Fellows, including how to give adequate support and feedback to a supervisee; best practices in mentoring, advising, and modeling professional behavior; and how to ensure supervision regulations are followed.
In this course, you will learn about Parkinson’s disease (PD), including pathophysiology and characteristics of PD that impact a person’s speech, swallowing, and cognition. You will examine the role of the speech-language pathologist in assessment and management of related deficits as well as rehabilitation considerations, steps and expectations for evaluation and assessment, and intervention and management techniques. The role and value of community-based resources to support individuals with Parkinson’s disease are presented.
