Cultural Competency/Diversity
CME program of instruction shall be of at least six hours duration, offered in the classroom, or through workshops, over the internet or through other venues, that provides:
1) A context for the training, common definitions of cultural competence, race, ethnicity and culture and tools for self-assessment;
2) An appreciation for the traditions and beliefs of diverse patient populations, at multiple levels — as individuals, in families and as part of a larger community;
3) An understanding of the impact that stereotyping can have on medical decisionmaking;
4) Strategies for recognizing patterns of health care disparities and eliminating factors influencing them;
5) Approaches to enhance cross-cultural clinical skills, such as those relating to historytaking, problem solving and promoting patient compliance; and
6) Techniques to deal with language barriers and other communication needs, including working with interpreters.

Palliative Care/End of Life
A licensee applying for a biennial license renewal shall complete 100 continuing medical education credits in Category I or Category II courses, of which at least 40 of such credits shall be in Category I. Two (2) of the 40 Category I credit courses must be in programs or topics related to end-of-life care.

Opioids and Controlled Substances
Practitioners will be required to obtain one (1) credit of continuing education on topics relating to opioid prescribing, alternatives to opioids for managing and treating pain, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion. The Board will advise you when you must demonstrate compliance with this requirement.
