Many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or IDD, take psychotropic medications to manage symptoms of mental illness and other conditions. It is important that you understand how these medications affect the people you support. In this course, you will learn what psychotropic medications are and why they are used. You will learn about their effects, including adverse effects. You will also learn about your role in supporting safe and effective management of psychotropic medications. The goal of this course is to provide DSPs in IDD service settings with an overview of issues related to psychotropic medications.
