The purpose of this course is to familiarize the learner with strokes and how the senior population is affected. The anatomy of cerebral blood flow and the effects of stroke on the brain tissue is discussed. Signs and symptoms of stroke are presented along with actions to be taken from early treatment. Information is provided on stroke prevention strategies. This course engages learners in content about diagnostic tests, treatments, and medications used to treat strokes. The course concludes with an overview of the lasting physical and psychosocial effects and tactics caregivers can implement to help a resident improve his or her quality of life.
