Type 1 Diabetes: Impact on Rehabilitation Plan of Care
Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) accounts for 5 to 10% of diagnosed cases of diabetes. In this foundational course, physical and occupational therapy professionals will learn the basic pathogenesis and treatment of T1DM. Case-based examples will demonstrate the implications of this co-morbidity on a patient's clinical presentation and impact on the therapist's proposed plan of care. Monitoring for hypo and hyperglycemia during a treatment session is addressed.

Nicole Fogarty holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northeastern University. She has experience treating patients with cardiopulmonary, orthopedic, and neurological impairments in the inpatient setting. She also has experience in outpatient orthopedics. She has additional training in medical screening, lumbopelvic examination and treatment, and treatment of patients with cardiopulmonary diseases.
