The foundation to working with pediatric patients is understanding typical developmental milestones. What activities should a child be able to do, when should they be able to do them, and how as a rehabilitation therapist should you assess these skills and abilities? In this course, rehabilitation professionals who are new to working in the pediatric setting will review the normal developmental milestones from two months to five years of age. Standardized and validated screening tools and assessment techniques will be discussed. Additionally, best practices for how to determine if a milestone not met warrants further assessment will be presented.

Downs, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist in North Carolina with a decade of experience providing diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and cognitive disorders to both geriatric and pediatric populations across a variety of settings. Christopher Meketansky OTR/L graduated from Stony Brook University in 2017 with a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. He has worked in skilled nursing and home healthcare settings with experience treating patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, balance impairments, and a myriad of other conditions impacting the older adult population.
