Military service members and their families regularly experience challenges and stressors that differ from those experienced by civilian families. Disruptions in family life from deployments, concern for the safety and well-being of a parent who has experienced combat, and frequent relocations are among the challenges confronted by military service members and their families. Despite the significance of these stressors, many military families demonstrate remarkable adaptability, positive coping, and resilience.
This course will examine how service members and their families can respond to the challenges of military life with resilience. You will learn what resilience means in the context of military life and family life and what factors strengthen resilience. You will also learn about interventions you can use to support resilience in military families, as well as information on established programs for fostering resilience.
The goal of this course is to provide healthcare and mental health providers in behavioral health settings with introductory skills to respond to working with military families and children.
