Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) working with high acuity patients in all settings - hospitals, home, and skilled nursing, need to be able to effectively evaluate and treat aphasia. This involves accurately interpreting data from evaluation, deciding on goals and interventions, and interdisciplinary team collaboration. This course reviews evidence-based practices for SLPs working with acute patients to evaluate and treat aphasia. It includes a review of the clinical presentation of different types of aphasia, formal and informal techniques for evaluation, and interventions for the acute patient with aphasia. Evaluation and treatment strategies are presented using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework.
