Rehabilitation in Hospice and Palliative Care: An Overview of Roles
Therapy services are often underutilized in hospice and palliative care despite the positive impact these services can have on pain, quality of life, and functional status. This course explains the role and value rehabilitation therapy professionals provide in these settings. Case scenarios focusing on evaluation and treatment are provided, allowing therapy professionals to gain the knowledge to begin treating patients enrolled in hospice and palliative care in various environments. Instructor: Amy Manchester PT, MSChristopher Meketansky OTR/L graduated from Stony Brook University in 2017 with a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. He received training in manual therapy, specialized treatment for individuals with degenerative neurological disorders and post-stroke neurorehabilitation. He has worked in skilled nursing and home healthcare settings with experience treating patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, balance impairments, and a myriad of other conditions impacting the older adult population.
Amy graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in December of 2000. She has worked as a physical therapist in skilled nursing, acute hospitals, outpatient therapy, home health, pediatric outpatient therapy, and school based therapy. She has also spent much of her career working with patients with psychiatric disorders across the lifespan.
