Hyperkyphosis is a geriatric syndrome that is common among older adults and progresses with age. It is associated with multiple adverse health statuses including declines in physical function, quality of life, self-esteem, and pulmonary function; vertebral fracture; and even mortality. Dr. Gladin is a physical therapist with 25 years of clinical experience and in the last 10 years has expanded her role as a clinician research scientist at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center. Her clinical and research interests include finding creative ways to preserve physical function among older adult populations, hyperkyphosis, and development of exercise and education-based interventions for health disparities in the Latino community. She has been a co-investigator on three NIH funded interventional trials targeting hyperkyphosis among older adults and principal investigator on two Kaiser Permanente Northern California Community Benefit grants interventional studies targeting health disparities in the Latino/Hispanic community. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences.
