Electronic (e)-cigarettes or electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) have gained wide popularity, particularly among youth. These battery-powered devices heat a liquid that is inhaled by the user, which influences the upper aerodigestive tract. Although e-cigarettes are often perceived as less harmful than smoking, multiple toxins have been found in e-cigarettes. The use and clinical effects of e-cigarettes are particularly relevant for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) due to their potential impacts on communication and swallowing.
