Effective surgical wound management during the perioperative phase provides a foundation for wound healing. This is an ongoing effort that begins with optimizing outcomes preoperatively based on patient- and procedure-specific factors. Key intraoperative tasks that support wound healing involve providing hemostasis, performing proper wound closure, and selecting the correct dressing. Continued wound assessments and dressing management are essential throughout the phases of wound healing to prevent complications.
The goal of this course is to equip nurses and STs with knowledge of strategies for perioperative wound management.
