Surgical instruments must be carefully processed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use and industry guidelines and best practices. However, in a busy OR where pressures are often high to do everything quickly, shortcuts in instrument processing and handling can lead to damage and contamination that ultimately put patients at risk. Quality control and monitoring are essential for ensuring items are adequately sterilized before use. This course provides an overview of the stages of sterile processing and the best methods for instrument care and handling.
The goal of this course is to equip perioperative nurses and CSTs with knowledge of instrument processing and management in the operating room.
