Heidi Bassani studied linguistics at The Ohio State University and worked in the Aphasia Research Center briefly in Boston, MA before completing her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders at The University of Virginia. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings including acute and critical care, outpatient, inpatient rehabilitation, and residential transitional care at Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University), Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a specialist in brain injury, much of her clinic experience has been focused on inpatient neurological rehabilitation and high-level cognitive rehabilitation for return to duty/work. Heidi has presented locally and nationally on cognitive rehabilitation of service members, augmentative and alternative communication/assistive technology, tracheostomy and ventilator care, and emerging consciousness.
