This course reviews palliative care for patients with heart failure. You will develop an understanding of the disease process of heart failure and its management in accordance with the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA)/Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) updated guidelines for the management of heart failure. In addition, you will learn when palliative care for patients with heart failure is appropriate, effective symptom management for heart failure, the importance of developing goals of care with patients who have heart failure, and criteria for referral to hospice. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of how to optimize care for patients with heart failure.

Elizabeth Vaccaro earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Kean University. She has worked as a Multiple Sclerosis Nurse Educator. Elizabeth has worked in a variety of healthcare settings from the hospital to the pharmaceutical industry which has allowed her to have a great appreciation for all the challenges that span the healthcare field.
