Surgical procedures on the eye can be complex because of the unique anatomical structures and microsurgical techniques involved. Ophthalmic or ocular surgery is performed on the eyeball and its accessory tissues, including the conjunctiva, extraocular muscles, eyelids, lacrimal system, and optic nerves. This course provides an overview of the ophthalmology procedures classified in the Eye and Ocular Adnexa subsection (65091-68899) of the Surgery section of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®). This course also introduces the learner to the format, guidelines, and common modifiers pertinent for reporting surgical procedures on the eye. The course will focus on identifying the appropriate code for ophthalmological surgical procedures using case studies and scenarios. A current copy of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Professional Edition is strongly recommended to optimize your understanding of the content covered.
