This course will give nurses information about performing effective healthcare assessments on people in correctional settings. Correctional healthcare nurses provide medical, dental, and mental health assessments that track the healthcare status of a person in custody from intake through their release into the community. These assessments must be completed systematically and consistently. The goal of this course is to provide nurses who work in correctional settings with an overview of how to conduct an effective health assessment.

She worked at Universal Pediatrics for 2 years. She worked for the Corrections Corporation of America, in Appleton, Minnesota as staff and charge nurse for 7 years. She was also the camp nurse for the South Dakota Wildlife Federation’s Youth Conservation Camp for 17 years. She was the Grant County South Dakota Bloodmobile Coordinator for the American Red Cross for 21 years. She also provided home end-of-life care for maternal grandparents, two husbands, mother-in-law, and father. Previous BA, Home Economics Education, Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa.
