Elopement is a daily challenge in many care settings. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services frequently cites facilities for breeches of safety and supervision which include elopement events (Norman, 2017). The risk of injury or death poses a challenge to staff in residential care settings. The safety of residents is a responsibility of all employees, regardless of their job title. This course discusses the precautions and interventions to follow to prevent a resident from eloping. It also discusses the process for how to respond if a resident elopes.
