This course provides foundational knowledge of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a common pulmonary disease. Completing this course will help rehabilitation therapists who care for individuals with COPD in the home health setting to better understand current medical management of COPD. This understanding will support better collaboration between multiple providers and improve coordination of care, with the ultimate goal of preventing patient readmission to an acute care setting. In addition, this course will introduce how aging affects the respiratory system and provide direction for supporting individuals with COPD in achieving a better quality of life.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Virginia in 1993 and her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 1996. Christopher Meketansky OTR/L graduated from Stony Brook University in 2017 with a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. He received training in manual therapy, specialized treatment for individuals with degenerative neurological disorders and post-stroke neurorehabilitation. He has worked in skilled nursing and home healthcare settings with experience treating patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, balance impairments, and a myriad of other conditions impacting the older adult population.
