Cardiomyopathies are a group of cardiac conditions that affect the heart muscle, which often leads to significant morbidity and mortality. Cardiomyopathies affect people of all ages. They can range from mild disease, in which patients have no symptoms and do not require treatment, to severe, debilitating, and life-threatening conditions. If left untreated, cardiomyopathies may eventually evolve into heart failure (HF). Healthcare providers (HCPs) should have a solid understanding of the various disease processes and complications associated with cardiomyopathies so that they can implement the proper interventions and support.
The goal of this course is to equip nurses and physicians in an acute care setting with knowledge of the various types of cardiomyopathies, clinical manifestations, and management strategies.
