Introduction to Peer Support for Peer Support Professionals

The behavioral health field increasingly recognizes that peer support is a powerful tool for helping people who receive services to achieve recovery. While the use of peer support specialists is becoming more mainstream, there is not always consistency in how it is implemented. Having a solid understanding of your role, the boundaries of your role, and how much it benefits the recovery of people receiving services will give you the confidence and knowledge needed to navigate these issues in the workplace. This may also help reduce the stress of having to explain or justify the work you are charged with doing by your accrediting body.
The goal of this course is to provide entry and intermediate level direct support professionals working in health and human services settings with information about the basics of peer support and how to use your experiences of recovery to help others.
