Social norms and laws are continuously evolving. There has been increasing social acceptance of people who are LGBTQ+ and laws have changed to protect their rights, such as rights to marry, enlist in the military, or be hired by the federal government. As society changes, the criminal justice system must adapt to these changing social norms. The goal of this course is to provide correctional, law enforcement, parole, and probation officers with education regarding the LGBTQ+ population and strategies for effective interactions with the LGBTQ+ population.

Course Description

Jennifer received her Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Master’s degree in Social Work with a Certificate in Substance Abuse Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has over 13 years of experience providing psychotherapy, counseling, and case management to a variety of populations.
