How do we manage and treat patients who have experienced COVID-19? We are still learning the impact of the disease on patient function; however, much is known about effective treatments for these patients upon discharge from the intensive care unit to either home or rehabilitation settings. This course provides rehabilitation professionals with an overview of typical clinical presentations, expected outcomes for patients recovering from COVID-19, and signs and symptoms of post-COVID conditions (long Covid). Clinical considerations for monitoring, interventions, and red flags for patients in the post-acute setting are presented. Recommendations for working with patients experiencing psychological impacts (fear, anxiety, social isolation) are also discussed.

Talia Pollok is a critical care physical therapist and board-certified clinical specialist in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy. She has over 10 years of experience providing physical therapy in an academic medical center where she collaborates with a variety of multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of critically ill patients and families. She also teaches and serves as a mentor to staff and students. Wendy holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in Biology, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Florida A&M University.
