Home Modifications: Bedroom and Bathroom
This course describes the challenges facing older adults who want to age in place and offers rehab therapists solutions to meet those challenges in the form of adaptive equipment and home modifications. Factors to consider when modifying the bedroom and bathroom are discussed using examples to demonstrate how to match solutions to each client's needs. Subject Matter Expert: Paula Keathley
Writer: Ann Elsasser-Root, PT, DPTPaula Sommerhalder Keathley holds a Masters of Occupational Therapy from Cal State Dominguez Hills. She has spent most of her time as an occupational therapist working in the areas of hand therapy among renowned surgeons in Beverly Hills and in home health providing home safety evaluations and making recommendations for adaptive equipment. She has advanced certifications including an advanced Hand Therapy Certification and is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist. She presently specializes in bringing her splinting, kinesiotaping, and manual therapy background to patients who cannot leave their homes due to their current disability.
Ann Elsasser-Root holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Geriatric Clinical Specialist with experience in multiple care settings, including skilled nursing, independent living, inpatient rehab, and outpatient orthopedic and neurology. Ann is most passionate about treating older adults to improve their quality of life and maximize functional independence.
