Hemiplegic Shoulder: Improve Function, Reduce Risk of Complications
This course presents physical and occupational therapy professionals with evidence-based guidelines for treatment of the hemiplegic shoulder. Learners will gain an understanding of how to evaluate the shoulder, recommendations for sling and support devices, interventions to manage pain and muscle tone, techniques to support functional recovery, and strategies to promote and engage patients to self-manage their condition.

Writer: Susan Almon-Matangos, MS, CCC-SLPReagan Drake, MOT, OTR/L, BS, ATC/LAT, is a certified and licensed occupational therapist and athletic trainer with 13 years of healthcare experience. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Barry University and her Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She worked with clients of all ages and a variety of diagnostic conditions in school, hospital, skilled nursing facility, outpatient clinic, and home health settings. In her previous role as a national clinical director for Aegis Therapies, she created training programs for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology related to the clinical rehabilitation needs of older adults in post-acute care. She currently draws upon her expertise in her role at Relias as Lead Subject Matter Expert Writer for Speech-Language Pathology.
