Group Therapy: Guidelines and Implementation

Group therapy has a unique role in rehabilitation and can be an effective addition to your individual therapy interventions to maximize the total dose of therapy received. The job of the rehabilitation therapist is to determine the clinical value of group therapy to each individual patient, identify the appropriate group therapy intervention, and be able to justify the clinical need for this intervention through documentation. With changing group therapy protocols and procedures along with reimbursement requirements and guidelines, it is important that therapists stay up to date with how to implement this therapy modality. Current definitions, billing guidelines, and evidence-based suggestions for implementing group therapy are presented in this course. Wendy holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in Biology, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Florida A&M University. She has more than 25 years of experience working as a Physical Therapist in multiple care settings, including acute care, inpatient rehab, independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and outpatient orthopedics. Wendy has a strong manual therapy background and has completed additional training in McConnell taping, geriatric care, McKenzie MDT, Maitland Mobilizations for the joints and spine. She is most passionate about using her manual skills to improve mobility and reduce pain in individuals of all ages.
