Working with people who are dying is difficult. However, when engaging in this kind of care a professional caregiver is making some of the most important and rewarding contributions of their career. For most of us, life is something to be celebrated and treasured. We relish life, filling our days with simple pleasures. Dying can also involve simple pleasures. These simple pleasures can come when we begin to understand that dying is an important part of living. Without this knowledge and understanding, we may fail to provide compassionate care for our terminally ill patients and their families.
