The Digestive System subsection in the Surgery section of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set contains codes for reporting a variety of endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures on the gastrointestinal tract, such as on the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, as well as the abdomen, peritoneum, and omentum. This course provides an overview of these endoscopic digestive system procedures. The course also introduces the learner to the codes, format, guidelines, and common modifiers pertaining to the digestive system endoscopy and laparoscopy procedure codes in the CPT. The course will focus on identifying the appropriate code for endoscopic digestive system procedures using case studies and scenarios. A current copy of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Professional Edition is strongly recommended to optimize your understanding of the content covered.
