Crisis Management Approaches for Telehealth Services

Hours: 1.00
Course Code: REL-BHC-0-PHK

Telehealth became more widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic (Institute for Healthcare Improvement [IHI], 2021). Also, during the pandemic, people experienced higher rates of behavioral health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and suicidal ideation (Czeisler et al., 2020).

Preparing for, managing, and following up around a behavioral health crisis via telehealth is a new skillset for many behavioral health professionals who were not using telehealth prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Behavioral health organizations across the country had to quickly pivot in the face of pandemic shutdowns to minimize disruption of care to their clients.

Many organizations will continue to use telehealth even after the pandemic restrictions have been lifted. Clinicians and organizations need to know how to manage crises over telehealth.

The goal of this course is to provide addictions, behavioral health counseling, case and care management, marriage and family therapy, nursing, psychology, and social work professionals working in health and human services settings with education around effectively planning for, intervening in, and following up after crisis situations via telehealth.
