Bowel surgery with anastomosis is a common procedure performed in the U.S. When the bowel is excised or bypassed, the two ends of the bowel are reconnected to maintain continuity. Bowel anastomosis is performed for both benign and malignant lesions. This course gives detailed information on preparation, how anastomosis is performed, and complications. This course also discusses routine elective bowel procedures as well as emergency bowel procedures.
The goal of this course is to provide surgical technologists with information about bowel surgery and anastomosis, including when it is performed and its potential complications.
