Hours: 1.00
Course Code: REL-BHC-0-ATMUD

This course provides an overview of stimulant use disorders with a specific focus on methamphetamine use disorder. According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 1.6 million people in the U.S. used methamphetamine in the past year, and nearly half used it in the past month (NIDA, 2021).  The chemical makeup of methamphetamines makes it relatively easy yet extremely dangerous to manufacture, simple to acquire illicitly, and very difficult to treat once an individual is addicted. In this course, you will learn how methamphetamines affect the body and about the components of assessment of methamphetamine use and misuse. Effective treatment approaches will be discussed with a focus on harm reduction strategies, motivational interviewing (MI), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
