The peripheral nervous system (PNS) works together with the central nervous system (CNS) to process sensory input and motor output. The brain, part of the CNS, is like a computer. It works hard each minute of every day. In this course, you will learn about the structure and function of the spinal and cranial nerves that make up the PNS. We will also discuss divisions of the PNS, including the somatic nervous system (SNS) and the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Finally, we will see how these nerves work together and learn common pathologies of this system along with tests and interventions that diagnose and/or treat conditions of the PNS. The goal of this course is to instruct medical coding professionals in all settings on the structures and functions of the PNS.
