An Introduction to Pulmonary Rehabilitation
This module provides respiratory therapy and rehabilitation therapy professionals with a foundational knowledge of pulmonary rehabilitation. Learners will understand the CMS program requirements and criteria for participation, how to use outcome measurements to support medical necessity, and standards for documentation. Case studies will model best practices including management of patients with post-COVID conditions (PCC), also referred to as Long COVID. The role of interdisciplinary team members is discussed, with examples of team collaboration to optimize patient outcomes.

Susan Almon-Matangos, MS, CCC-SLP, is a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist with over 30 years of experience. She obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology from Jacksonville State University and her Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology from The University of Alabama. She worked with clients of all ages and a variety of diagnostic conditions in school, hospital, skilled nursing facility, outpatient clinic, and home health settings. In her previous role as a national clinical director for Aegis Therapies, she created training programs for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology related to the clinical rehabilitation needs of older adults in post-acute care. Jason Hall is a registered respiratory therapist with specialty certifications in critical care and pulmonary function testing. He obtained his respiratory training in the U.S. Army where he began as a combat medic and later received specialty training as a respiratory therapist. He has worked as a civilian respiratory therapist for more than 20 years and has worked in all areas of respiratory care. In addition to clinical positions, he has taught respiratory care, serves as a subject matter expert in respiratory care, and has served at all levels of respiratory care including as a System Director for Ascension St. John in Oklahoma. Currently, he is employed as the Director of Operations for Ascension St. John Medical Center and has direct supervision of an AACVPR-accredited comprehensive cardiopulmonary rehab program.
