Capnography is a quick, reliable, and non-invasive method that provides insight into a person's heart rate, breathing, circulation, and metabolism. Capnography and pulse oximetry can be used together to wean individuals from mechanical ventilation. It is also helpful for monitoring spontaneous ventilation during sedation procedures and after weaning. Using capnography for assessing early respiratory distress and detecting respiratory compromise is also highly beneficial.
The goal of this course is to provide nursing and respiratory therapy (RT) professionals in the post-acute setting with knowledge of capnography use in ventilated and non-ventilated patients.
