When an injury to the brain occurs, the results can range from little to no damage to severe damage that affects the ability to sustain life. The severity and prognosis of a brain injury vary depending on the location and extent of damage to the brain tissue. When working with individuals who have incurred a brain injury, it is important for you to understand how the injury affects overall functioning. In this course, you will learn about the impairments that occur because of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the types of assessments available to determine the severity and outcome of the injury.
The goal of this course is to educate nurses and social workers in post-acute care with the information needed to support and care for the individual with a TBI.
