Introduction to HIPAA

Introduction to HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (known as HIPAA) gives individuals rights and protection over their personal health care information. Allowing unauthorized individuals to see this personal information can have severe consequences for you and your organization, even if it happens by accident. This course will focus on two branches of HIPAA: the privacy rule (which describes what information is protected) and the security rule (which describes the steps that must be taken to protect this information). The goal of this course is to provide all staff with basic information about the principles of confidentiality and specific information about HIPAA privacy and security.
