Intent: This course has been updated to reflect the 10/1/2019 changes in the RAI manual.
The items in this section are intended to assess the many conditions that could affect the resident’s ability to maintain adequate nutrition and hydration. This section covers swallowing disorders, height and weight, weight loss, and nutritional approaches. The assessor should collaborate with the dietitian and dietary staff to ensure that items in this section have been assessed and calculated accurately. Section L: Oral Dental Status Intent: This item is intended to record any dental problems present in the 7-day look-back period.

Instructor: Ron Orth RN, CHC, CMAC, AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM Trainer
Ronald Orth, RN, CMAC, CHC  obtained a nursing degree from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1985 and a B. A. in Health Care Administration from Concordia University in 1996. Mr. Orth possesses over 30 years of nursing experience with over 20 of those in the Skilled Nursing industry. Mr. Orth has extensive experience in teaching Medicare regulations to healthcare providers both in the US and internationally. Mr. Orth is currently the Post-acute Care Curriculum Designer and is certified in Healthcare Compliance through the Compliance Certification Board (CCB). Ron has also successfully completed the Infection Control Officer training through the AHCA and is an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM trainer. Kimberly Matthews, RN obtained a nursing degree from Western Kentucky University in 1998.  Ms. Matthews possesses over 20 years of nursing experience with over 17 of those in the Skilled Nursing industry.  Ms. Matthews has extensive experience in MDS, restorative nursing programs, and nursing management.  Ms. Matthews is currently a Post Acute Care Content writer and subject matter expert for MDS.
