Accidental injury is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. Many injuries can be prevented by education-based interventions delivered by health professionals. Occupational therapists have the training and skill set to address this serious problem by increasing awareness through education in the community context. This module describes the prevalence and common causes of unintentional injury and the role of occupational therapy in injury prevention.

Donna completed her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from East Carolina University in December 1990. She has extensive pediatric experience in both school- based, outpatient clinic, preschool, daycare, home health, and teletherapy settings throughout the course of her career. Significant knowledge and expertise in treating developmental delays, autism, cerebral palsy, and congenital abnormalities with children in various settings from infancy to high school age level have been her primary focus.
