Hospice Clinical Eligibility: Heart/Pulmonary Diseases

Hospice Clinical Eligibility: Heart/Pulmonary Diseases

Identification of clinical eligibility for hospice is a critical component to ensuring appropriate reimbursement for hospice services. Each disease state has specific eligibility guidelines that should be met before admission to a hospice agency. This course focuses on the clinical eligibility for heart and pulmonary diseases common at the end of life including heart failure, COPD, and pulmonary fibrosis. You will learn the pathophysiology of these diseases, classification or staging for the disease as applicable, clinical indicators that the individual is in the terminal stages of the disease, specific LCD guidelines for hospice eligibility, and appropriate documentation to support eligibility.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The guidelines referenced in this course were taken from CGS Medicare. Please refer to your specific Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for any potential policy differences.
