Tavi Hawn, LCSW trained in both macro and micro social work at the University of Washington in Seattle. After working on the West Coast with houseless youth, children who'd experienced severe abuse or neglect, and adults in residential substance abuse treatment, they returned home to North Carolina and worked with youth in the juvenile justice system. They then started a private therapy practice, primarily seeing transgender and gender non-conforming people of all ages. They co-founded a nonprofit summer camp for queer and trans youth and youth from LGBTQ+ families, and also formed an LGBTQ+ Wellness Center Collaborative providing a variety of healing modalities and community events. Tavi is a queer, two spirit, multi-racial, native person who currently provides consultation and training for organizations and individuals seeking to become more trans-affirming, in addition to facilitating a two spirit wellness circle through a local urban Indian center, and maintaining a small private therapy practice in Maryland. They continue to seek ways to use their privileges to increase access for trans, two spirit, gender non-conforming people in the fields of social work and mental health as practitioners, instructors, and recipients of services.
