Trauma-Informed Care 

Trauma survivors have unique care needs that must be incorporated into the plan of care in order to attain or maintain the resident's highest level of health and well-being. The use of trauma-informed care requires staff to understand types of traumatic experiences and their impact on residents, recognition of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, that some trauma survivors may experience, triggers residents may have, and care strategies that can eliminate these triggers and prevent re-traumatization. This course illustrates the incorporation of trauma-informed care into the person-centered, culturally competent plan of care in long-term care facilities.
