There are many hazards that exist in everyday life and while not all accidents can be avoided, many can be. Because some residents are frail, they may be more vulnerable to hazards in the environment and this can result in life-threatening injuries. You and your organization have a responsibility to ensure the safest environment possible for your residents. This course will help you identify and address hazards and risk to prevent accidents. Additionally, you will learn the steps to take if an accident does occur. Unless otherwise noted, the information contained in this course was sourced from Appendix PP – Guidance to Surveyors of Long Term Care Facilities (CMS, 2017). While these guidelines are specific for long-term care facilities, they represent best practices that can also be applied to assisted living facilities.
