Dysphagia Management for the Home Health Nurse

Dysphagia Management for the Home Health Nurse

Given the gravity of a swallowing disorder and the many complications that can arise, healthcare providers need to be able to identify at risk individuals. Comprehensive and high-quality home healthcare is an important aspect in planning dysphagia care. Involving individuals and their families plays an integral part in developing an appropriate plan of care and making decisions that result in optimal physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Home health nurses are responsible for overall care coordination and individual education. As such, you must understand the management of dysphagia in home care to be able to effectively work with the speech language pathologist (SLP) and reinforce individual education during home visits.
