Instructor: Bernadette Speiser, MSN , CCRN , RCIS
Bernadette has been the Cardiology Nurse Consultant for the VAMC Patient Care Services since 2005. Her duties include site reviews and implementation of new Cath/EP programs within the VA network. She has been involved in establishing national standards for the policy and procedure manual and in quality assurance/performance improvement for the Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Laboratories. For the last 11 years Bernadette has been the Nurse Director of the Cardiology Department at Jesse Brown VAMC. Her responsibilities include the complete re-alignment of the Cath Lab services, developing policy and procedures manuals for both the University of Illinois and Northwestern University hospital systems, and continues to assist in performance of a variety of Cath Lab procedures. She has served on various committees including Chairman of the VHA Directive re-write on BLS/ACLS, as a member of the REDi-VA resuscitation committee to standardize crash carts and collect national data on cardiopulmonary arrests, and as a member of the National Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC) for Cardiology. Bernadette has presented numerous lectures at the Cath Lab National Meetings including Joint Commission Review, Staffing Allocation and Radial Catheterization. She served as the Co-Chairman of the JBVA/UIC Lecture Series for TransRadial Catheterization and Left Ventricular Support Devices and has trained over 250 staff from all over the US in the use of these updated programs. Elizabeth Kellerman MSN, RN started in nursing in 2007 after graduating from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California.
