Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment

Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment

Nutrient deficiencies are often overlooked by healthcare providers for a variety of reasons. Yet, research demonstrates that nutritional deficiencies exist as a consequence of increased nutrient requirements, impaired nutrient utilization due to chronic disease, poor diet, increased losses due to medication use, and inflammatory processes related to disease and medical interventions. Dietitians and nurses play an integral role in identifying the presence of nutritional concerns through a comprehensive physical assessment. This course discusses use of the physical assessment to identify nutritional concerns including the interview, physical exam, and other components.
