Behavioral Health Issues in Older Adults

The majority of older adults age without behavioral health problems. The Center for Disease Control’s 2013 publication, The State of Mental Health and Aging in America, estimates that 20% of people 55 and older experience a behavioral health problem that causes distress and dysfunction. Unrecognized and untreated, they will experience more health problems and reduced quality of life. This course is designed to increase your ability to distinguish between normal aging and behavioral health problems, utilize effective methods to identify, prevent, and treat behavioral health problems, and barriers to treatment in the older adult population.
