Parkinson’s Disease: Treatment Strategies for the PT and OT

Parkinson’s Disease: Treatment Strategies for the PT and OT

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic and progressive neurological disease that persists over a long period, with its symptoms advancing over time (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke [NINDS], 2016). Many disciplines are involved in the care of the patient with Parkinson’s disease, but the occupational and physical therapist have specific strengths in treatment that can help the patient with PD. At this point, PD has no cure, but the goal of treatment is to manage the symptoms and increase quality of life through medication and therapy. In this course, you will learn how physical and occupational therapy can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
