This module addresses the use of palliative care in patients with heart failure. In this course, you will develop an understanding of the disease process of heart failure and its management in accordance with 2013 ACCF/AHA guidelines for the management of heart failure. In addition, the learner will learn when palliative care for the heart failure patient is appropriate, barriers to care in the heart failure patient, effective symptom management across the healthcare continuum, the importance of developing goals of care with the heart failure patient, and criteria for referral to hospice.

Instructor: Audra Noonan, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, APRN
Audra Noonan MSN, AGPCNP-BC, APRN has a passion for the work she performs in hospice and palliative care. As a palliative care nurse practitioner, she has worked in hospitals, homes, assisted living facilities, and long term care facilities to provide comfort and advocacy to patients living with chronic, progressive, end stage illness. She began her career as a medical assistant then worked her way toward her RN and MSN respectively. During her nursing career, she started on a cardiac step down unit, then moved to cardiac and diabetes education. From there, she started work as a hospice nurse for twelve years where she became certified in hospice and palliative care as an RN then obtained her MSN from Kaplan University and became certified by ANCC as an Adult Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
