A Professor Emeritus in the Department of Nursing at California State University in Long Beach, CA, Dr. Callahan received her nursing education at Rockingham Community College, Wentworth, North Carolina, and her anesthesia education at the Anesthesia Program for Nurses at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston Salem, North Carolina. The recipient of a BS in Biology from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, a MA in Education, and a MS in Nursing from California State University in Long Beach, California, she received her PhD in Educational Research and Evaluation from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida in 1994. In the summer of 2003, Dr .Callahan was a fellow in the Genetics Institute of the National Institute of Nursing Research/National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Callahan has a broad base of practice experience as an educator, clinician, administrator, and consultant. She has written numerous publications and is widely known as a continuing education lecturer in the field of anesthesia, pain management, and the sciences. She is a Past-President of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
